Discussion Question #2
This week, you read several fairy tales and fairy tale adaptations. If you had your own children, or young children in your life, what kinds of stories would you read to them? Why?
I'd read them more developed, realistic stories with lessons accommodating to real life. Everybody thinks that when they grow up they'll be rich, famous, rock stars, super stars; but we won't, and slowly we learn this fact. The casual fairytale implants ideas of knights in shining armour sweeping princesses off their feet with true love, not to mention infinite riches and, "living happily ever after." This being said, I'm not suggesting that I'll be reading my children stories of terror, but much rather seek out fables slightly more down to earth.
i totaly agree with the previous comment. i woulld also read them stories that are modern and more realstic because we all know by now that love doesn't solve all problems in life and there's isn't always a prince to save you. i would read these stories in order to tell them you should be more independent person and try to solve your own problems.
If I had a son or a daughter I will try my best to read them the happy ending childrean stories. Every children wants happy endings, and great story lines. Childreans think their world is perfect, so I dont wan't to ruin it by telling the reality. Reading happy stories motivates to be a good children, and make them think positive. I want the best for my children, so I won't read to them any serious childrean stories. We all know when childrens grow up, they will all know how to compare reality and fantasy. That is a pain of growing up, crashing their young imagination. But still, I dont want to ruin their childhood. Any stores I read to them will be positve, that can develop this child.
I would read children fairytales that reflect on real life. Of course they would have happy endings because children deserve to read and see happy things since they are just very young human beings on this earth. However, the story should also teach them good lessons on genuine circumstances. Some fairytales are too imaginary which are good for their minds but eventually children will have to face the truth. -Nina
I agree with what Nina said, children deserve their "happy endings" in fairy tales. I want to make them feel, how it felt like when I was child. I want them to enjoy their childhood. However, I also want them to be able to differentiate fantasy from reality; what happens from what is only built from the imagination. Reality, that would give them moral lessons in life. Hence, I want them to learn and apply these good values, from the enjoyment of reading fairy tales.
If i had children of mi own at this age which i dont but if i did. Uhmm I'd read them educational stories. Becuase these fairy tails and all that, theyr all fake,, Because I want mi children to grow up smart not grow up believing in things like Tooth fairy, Fairy tales, dragons and love and all that becuase once you fall in love at a young age, its very hard to move on with you life and if your a very emotional person it takes a while to get over and thats a big waste of time. I would read them books about things they should be aware of. I dont believe in reading fairytales to kids.
a story i would read to kids is the boy who cried wolf. why? because it is thrilling, has suspense, and has a lesson to be heard. As a kid i enjoyed it, and i am sure that all kids would love it.
what story will I read to my?? well i want wont read fairy tales to them, ill give them educational books to read maybe a book that they can read..like Asif said if they read about love and all that they'll just go and get a boy or girlfriend at a young age. But ill read them a good easy book that they'll understand and that will give them lessons on what to do and not to do. -Niroo
I agree with my fellow classmates that we should read them story that are based on real life and books that end happily because it could teach them about life and how can they could overcome those problem if they ever experience it when they grow up. I want them to learn things that they will use in the future when they read on book.

If I had my own children, which I will in the future, I would read them books about reality and history. But since there still young and developing, I will try to make it fun as possible and make them join the time with laughs and smiles.
I would read them about reality and history because, at there young age, they won't acknowledge about the past moments we experience and regrets we had. They could accomplish what we couldn't. And also, they could change the world to a better place to live in.
I would read them inspirational stories. This is to get them thinking of what they want to become when they're older. It will also develops their resolve in life..
I would read to my children fairy tales although I want them to become realistic. Fairy tales feature not only advice and moral values but also creativity and wisdom. Those features are carried through by many characters in stories who face fears and finally overcome personal challenges. For example, a well-known story The Wizard of Oz teaches children how to become adventurous and build good friendship. The messages in fairy tales can be good lessons for my children to indirectly experience and learn about life.
If I had a young child in my life, I would read them all kinds of stories. Scary, Funny, Fictional, Real, Fairytales, Magical, Unimaginable ones. This will help the child develope a vast mind for thinking/ imagination which is great for the childs mental development on the way he or she thinks or may see something.
i would read stories to them that teach them good old christian values. That poeple of this generation dont not have or have put aside. They would be about poeple who were diffrent cause of thier goodness and there willingness to help others.stories that would teach them to be brave and kind hearted. When I have kids of my own, I wouldn't mind reading them traditional fairytales in the beginning. Although those stories set somewhat unrealistic expectations on life, it's great to learn to dream.
