Discussion Question 2
People in the World State in Brave New World do not have freedom, but are taken care of - they have jobs, food, and access to leisure activites. What's more important - having your basic needs met (food, shelter, water), or freedom?
i think they are both imporant and freedom should also be a basic need.sometimes people sacrifice freedom to provide security and shelter but i think your freedom shouldn't be jeopardized in order to have your basic needs met.Everyone has the right to adequate living. However, if i really had to choose between freedom and my basic needs being met i would rather have my needs met because even though it is hard you can still survive without freedom but you need food, shelter and etc... to survive.
Thats truee. Freedom is important but not as important as ur basic need such as writen above. For me i think of it in a very different way. If you have love and family and your happy then thats your freedom noone could touch me or tell me what to do. I'll fight 4 whats right and whats wrong. I just want to live mi life simple with a nice family, lots of love, and most importantly happy. Theres no point of being free if you dont cant afford to buy food or earn money or being seperated from family. If you have the things i mentioned then thats freedom for me no matter what? because those are the things that make me happy and if im happy thats my style of freedom...
I think in a world with freedom, only most individuals have their basic needs, but not quite all. I would argue that for the mass it is more important to have the basic needs, but as an individual, it might be better to have freedom in oder to fulfill the basic needs yourself, because than it is possible to have both.
Both of them are important. However, both don’t give the same impact on human life. There’s a big difference between a need, and a choice of your own. A need is something you have to have, or else you’ll die. While freedom, is something that feeds your inner soul. If you were to let me choose, I’d choose freedom. Why? Because for me, there’s no point in living any longer if I won’t live for my purpose anyway. I wouldn’t mind if the world doesn’t give me much time, as long as it has given me, the quality I asked for in life.
i think that having freedom and basic needs met are both the same and important because if you have food,shelter and water its kinda like having freedom. Like if you don't have your basic needs pretty much means that you don't have freedom ( those basic needs is freedom).
Today's world is full of hunger,war,pain, and that all leads to chaos. But in Brave new world socity, nobody is complaning cause there is no problem. Everybody has their basic needs. In order to be satisfied, people needs to have basic needs, than go another step. In a human pyramid law, peoople need basic need in order to survive. People in the brave new world, has no condition to ask for "freedom". The society is a utopia, a mankind would never have done it.
It is true that people have no freedom in brave new world. Then, These people have been well cared everyday by a director. There are no complains, no fighting, and no dissatisfactions. Everything is good and no problem in brave new world for people. However, there is a bad thing that these people don't know. Which is that they never feel the sense of accomplishment. They just do their jobs and live their life like a hamster plays with a wheel in a small case and a automatic machine. I hope that they do their own specific things to feel accomplishment as well to enjoy their life.
Basic needs and freedom are two important things in different ways. But if I have to choose between these two, I would prefer having my basic needs met. Basic needs are our essential to our survival. Without it, we won’t live. For instance, you may have all the freedom you want, but how can you possibly enjoy your life if you’re in lack of food/shelter. We NEED basic necessities, whereas we only WANT freedom. And I think that getting what you NEED is far more important and fulfilling than having what you WANT.
I too think they are both imporant and hard to choose between the two .You have on one hand freedom ,when you can think what you want to think and say what you want to say ,and be what you want to be ,and are in control of your life.you can be rich or poor but will all way have your freedom .The other having no freedom ,having poeple control your life to what they think you should be,but in a cost for your freedom you will never be poor you will all ways be taken care of and will never have to worry about living in the streets or going hungry.The only way is to find a balance in the two .In a socialty where you can have both without pay a price for one .
To me I would rather have my freedom. Freedom is one of the biggest needs that I would want. If you dont have your freedom but the world state gives you everything else, its like being a slave that is well taken care of.
I believe that freedom is more important than needs. The citizens in the world state did not have freedom. Somone else decides what his/her future is going to be before the individual is born. Sure they are being taken care of. But they are not aware of tryin out new things and being unique. Everyone in the world state are similar. They think the same, characteristics are the same due to genetic replication. The reason why is because they believe that doing so is considered very outrageous and is against the rules. No one has ever done it and no one will ever try to be a rebel.
