I think we all agree that the real world exists in shades of grey, not black-and-white when it comes to good and evil. However, are there examples of absolute and complete evil in the world? If so, will there ever be a way to rid the world of it?

I dont think that there is absolute evil in real world and that is only in fairy tales. In real world everyone has a good and a bad side and it is just some people tend to show their bad side more. Noone can be all good or pure evil....good and bad is in all of us.

I believe that there is no such thing as absolute & complete evil in this world. We were born into this world, not to become immoral and wicked beings. And as we all know, we're different from one another. We have different wants and desires in life. That sometimes, when others get what they want, they tend to forget their values. They may replace their families and friends in return for power and fame. However, they're only a few and not into the extremes. And it's because, majority of us are mindful of our origins and the people of whom we love.

I think that every person in the world is different and everyone has a good side and a bad side. Absolute evil is just in fiction stories so that an author can make a certain character look like the bad guy. i do not think it exists in real life.

I think absolute evil is more a thing from fairytales and fiction stories. In the real world it is often hard to figure out the absolute evil, if it appears. The clear and separated "good and bad" is also an element of fiction stories. Most persons have good and bad parts and acting different, depending on the situation. In stories the really "evil" is only acting evil and normally not showing any good characteristics.

I also think that there is no living thing on this earth that is completely evil, but some people only show their evil side, because something arouses this side. I think in generell everyone is good and has a positive look on others. In some peoples' life there happens something that makes their bad side appear.

I believe absolute evil exists in the real world. The previous comments stated that the absolute evil only exists in fiction. However, fiction can not be completely fictional because stories are written, based on real life. So, many creative authors' ideas about evil come form the reality. For example, many thriller movies or books based on true stories often involve serial killers torturing innocent people in cruel ways. In fact, those characters in the fictional world reflect some of criminals in the real world. Even though law and justice protect society from the evil things, it is almost impossible to stop them as many tragic events in history prove. Therefore, as long as the good exists, the evil will always co-exist with the good.

I believe that evil does exist in the world, however it is only evil depending on who it is percieved by. For example, Adolf Hitler's acted of establishing death camps was believed by him to be an act of greater good to the world. Naturally, we see this as an act of absolute evil, however, he more than likely saw it as an act of good. And truly, what dicates what is good an bad? Is killing one person to save a hundred evil?
I think absolute evil doesn't exist in this world, because there is no actual definition of absolute evil. The word "absolute evil" has different meaning to each individual. For example, people might say that "Adolf Hitler" was the most evil man cause he killed millions of innocent people. But other people argue that he was a great leader, who made Germany a wealthy country. In fiction people can describe absolute evil to characters, because is fiction. I am pretty sure even Hitler have a sensitive side in his heart.

I believe there is a no absolute evil in the real world. All the people in the world have started to live since they were babies. Those babies were innocent around their environments, they were existed to make their mother happy and grow as a good person. They learned evil as they grow up. The enviornments around them are evils, not them. All people exist to do good things. As they grow up, they learn evils from the enviornments without recognizing to learn.

I don't think absolute value evil exist in the real world. I agree that they are all different kind of evils in the world but doesnt go to far as taking over the world. I think absolute evil only exist in books and fairytales.

I believe that there is no such thing as absolute evil. Absolute evil only exists in fiction stories. The author just uses this component to portray a character so evil, and yet the good side still manages to win over it.
Every individual possesses a good and a bad side. And it is only up to them how they're going to make use of it, whether to allow their goodness overcome their bad side, or the other way around.
I agree on what Friedrich said. Something might have occurred in some point of someone's life which became the cause of its bad side to appear. Nevertheless, this doesn't mean that their good side will cease.

We only choose to have evil. But in my world, there is no evil.

I think that absolute evil can exist. once a person has faced a certain amount of depression he/she will no more see the meaning of happiness.Darkness is inevitable once the light is gone.
Absoloute evil and absoloute good are completely relative to every different person individually. For example, my version of absoloute evil will be different than that of a psychopath... so is there such thing as absoloute evil/good? No.

I think tht there is examples of aboslute evil, evil is in us all it can take over our minds and control us but the only way that can happen is if someone tries to control you. It can go away if you dont let that person control you.

I agree with the teachers statment .she asked are there examples of absolute and complete evil in the world?.yes their is complete evil in the world and an example of it is war1 and war2 which were in the past, but yet in the present day nations are still making the same mistakes like in Afghanistan and ,Iraq ,Rhonda.I think answer to overcome the troubles of the world is to learn from the past and if it has not happened in the past to not use anger or weapons but calm down and work it out.

Thanks everyone for all the insightful comments. I'm seeing a trend of what's called moral relativism - that is, what's evil for me, might not be evil for you. But is this always the case?
