Respond to the movie. Chris seems to be looking for what he calls truth. What do you think he's searching for? Did he ever find it?

I think Chris was looking for freedom from all the family problems and he just wants to take a break from all the stress of city life. And to just travel to Alaska because of all the freedom in Alaska, he finds freedom but he couldn't live any longer so he died.
I think that Chris is searching for proserity, freedom, and true happiness. I think that he thinks everyone is living unnaturally, and the only way to live life is just by being out there in the nature. He is especially escaping from his parents because he thinks their marriage is a lie. He did find what he was loking for half way. He didn't quite get to Alaska but he did have freedom for some time.

Chris leaves in persuit of freedom and obligations. He seems to be searching for true happiness but realizes that happiness is meaningless without someone whom you can share with. He seems to regret all his actions at the end so i dont think he really found what he was searching for.

I think Chris was searching for freedom and independence. He wanted to escape all his anxieties and stress in his life. He was also trying to find out what was 'true happiness' but in the end of the movie he figure out that happiness is only true when it is shared with others. I think he only found freedom for himself but it didn't found a true happiness because he was lonely.

In Chris' case, truth meant: happiness being shared. Most people wouldn't understand why he would give up his family & other material possessions. Most people wouldn't know the reason, because for them, what was stated already meant happiness.
Chris is different. He seeks for freedom; priceless moments; unselfish love. This, he did not see in the eyes of his same blood, but in the eyes of MANY. It would be difficult if you didn't know where to start, and what to sacrifice. Hence, he found truth. "Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.." -Buddha

Chris says he was looking for truth, but I believe he wanted more of an escape. After all, how can you find 'truth' inside a forest, in the middle of nowhere, all by yourself? Unless that truth came from his mind... then that would make more sense. The story seemed to be able a young man looking for a break from his own life. He just needed to get away and that's totally understandable. In the end, I believe he did feel a sense if accomplishment and happiness. If only he didn't eat that plant ):

To be honest, I really dont understand the point of the movie. I mean, it's about college kid who wanted to look for the "truth" so he goes into the wild. "Truth" can be viewed in different perspective, thats why he wanted to get out of society. I think this is his problem, he is the one who didn't fit well in society. Nobody should feel sorry for him, he chose his path. Why seek the truth? When you have great things ahead of you?

i think he was searching for what is called true happiness. he neverfound it at home, but he did find it at the verge of his death.

I think Chris is looking for something he has made up in his mind. Like an escape from is horrible youth due to his parents. He just wants it to be himself and nautre/ realism. Nothing else but purity I suppose.

I think Chris was looking for freedom, and being alone will help him reach his limits. He wants to tell the whole world that freedom is the only way to be successful. Travelling alone will give him less more stress and away from his family. I suppose by dying in the forest, he realized that freedom and peace can only come after death.

I think chris was trying to explain that happiness doenst only come from human relationships but from everything around you. You dont need most of the things in life. just the things around you and you can make a living out of it. He wanted to be different from everyone and wanted to hve freedom
The way i look at this movie was basically that chris was different from everyone else. He never wanted what the other college kids wanted for examples cars money and all that. Examples are showed in the movie when he burns the money and also when he is told that he will be rewarded a new car by his parents becuase he successfully graduated. Chris was looking to be free from everything and to do that he wanted to live by himself and do what he thougth was the best. He went on to live a lonely life but met alot of people and slowly he became weak and started to realize that life was not good alone. As he would write in his diary some of the words clearly showed that he was bored and scared but just didnt wanted to admit that he hated it. Coming close to an end of his life as he even knew when he ate something that couldnt be digested and read that he would die soon. He lied on his bed and he was looking through the window and started to realize that life lived alone was not the rigth way to happiness and freedom. In the begining he mentioned that "Happiness comes from everything and anything around you not just from human relationship." Later on just before his death he changed his mind and said that Happinnes is only real its shared.
